If you've enjoyed this blog, subscribe to Fine Books & Collections magazine. For just $25 you'll get six full-color issues: nearly 500 pages a year on books and collecting.
I launched Fine Books & Collections - then called OP magazine - in January 2003. We've published every other month since then, though we changed our name to Fine Books & Collections starting with issue 11. We've grown into the largest - and I like to think the best - magazine for book collectors and intelligent readers interested in book culture.
I don't do this alone by any means, but my partner perfers to keep a low profile. He's the one who handles all the behind-the-scenes stuff that we need to keep this operation running. (My mother-in-law co-founded the magazine with me but stepped aside when we became Fine Books & Collections.)
My wife is a much more prolific blogger than I am. She is one of the queens of garden blogging and has written several award-winning books.
I collect books by R. K. Narayan, the first professional novelist in India, and Gary Soto, a fine poet and children's book writer in Berkeley, California. I also collect McSweeney's publications and novelist Caryl Phillips, but less seriously.
We have four backyard hens, which are always good for a laugh after a long day.
